Le Room - Pt. 1

I promised you guys I would give you a sneak peak of my room, so here it is! I'm about halfway done with the decorating so I only took a few shots. I'm living in a 19th century Victorian brownstone with original fixtures, so I decided to use that as inspiration for how decorate. I'm going for a mix between Victorian decadence and French country side. (P.S: Just in case you were wondering, yes that's me on the couch...just with some new additions to my hair. I put in Senegalese twists and I'm in love with them.)
Window seat from South Africa
The one and only downside to my room is the closet space. It's pretty much nonexistent. I love clothing racks better anyway because I can see everything more easily, so I bought two of them for my clothes and store my shoes and handbags on shelves in the closet (those pictures will come in a later post).
Zara blouse - similar here and here
I'm wearing a vintage kimono and American Apparel disco pants.

I hope you all enjoyed these pictures as much as I did!

Could You Be Any Sweeter?

Could you be any sweeter?

Whenever I imagine myself landing in Paris and stepping out of my private jet, this is what I'm wearing. I'm silently praying this dream of mine comes true in the near future. Until then, I'll continue with my musings. I can tell the pattern on this Ted Baker dress would compliment my body so well because of the line placement. I have a pretty short torso, so the close horizantal lines going down the center will give it the appearance of being longer. Wa-la! Beauty.

John Doe

John Doe

It's safe to say that I'm a girly-girl (and proud of it!), but as every girly-girl does, I have my tom-boyish moments from time to time. When the huge wedged sneaker trend popped up I definitely indulged in a few pairs for myself. Then I thought about it, I thought about it hard. I realized that there is a whole world of flat sneakers that I have never explored. I've been too busy trying to still 'look womanly' with my wedges. It's time to stop discriminating. My first step towards the integration of flat sneakers into my shoe collection will be to by the red Supras (above) that I have been feigning over for months. They're available now at Asos for $127, which is much cheaper than they were last summer. The leather cap I included in the design set is also from Asos (they're just winning right now aren't they?) and is another item I plan on purchasing just because I love anything leather and don't own too many hats yet. This outfit can be worn either with the black BOY London cropped t-shirt or the white Zara cropped t-shirt . Both are fly, both will be in my closet.

PS: I'm moving into my new place in Brooklyn this weekend! I can't even tell you guys how excited I am. I've literally waited for this moment since I was 11. I really enjoy interior decorating -- another one of my hobbies -- so I'm going to have a lot of fun in the coming days bringing all the ideas that have been over-flowing my brain to life. Interested in seeing how I decorate/set up the new place? Let me know in the comment box below!

Happy Friday!

The Crop Top

The Croptop. The most essential piece of clothing in my wardrobe. 3 reasons:
1) They go with anything highwaisted
2) They give outfits that sexy feel without being overly provacative
3) They're fun :)
If you're like me and you're obsessed with highwaisted skirts and pants, then croptops are your best friend. On Sunday it got so warm in the afternoon! I was super excited, and used that as an excuse to go funiture shopping in this number (minus my coat I left in the car).
This is my 'Yay the sun is out!' pose.
Accessories: French Connection spike ring, flea market ring, vintage handbag
Also wearing Asos pencil skirt in black, Arden B crop top and vintage earrings

Petal Power

Black II Ways

I love it when pieces correspond with each other in an obvious way (only if it's done right of course). For instance, in the outfit above. I feel like it's really easy to overdue it when you're dealing with flowers. I love how subdued the black and white flower print on these Stella McCartney jeans are. The cut-outs in the Topshop leather top remind me of flower petals so I decided to add it in for that *mmm* factor. This is my version of funky, especially once you add in the Helmut Lang leather jacket. Mixing textures and prints is more interesting to me than mixing colors. For now at least.

Ruins

I love to go exploring whenever I have the chance, which is rarely. There are so many places that you can just happen upon in New York. The most magical areas are always found by mistake. I pass this little park full of columns and moss covered stones every time my aunt and I go to our favorite Italian restaurant, Giulio's, in Yonkers. Giulio is the sweetest man ever, not to mention he makes the BEST penne vodka in the neighborhood. Trust me, I know Italian food.
These columns remind me of ancient ruins...not that I've ever seen any in real life. So I guess it's safe to say they remind me of the pictures I skimmed through in my 8th grade history books. I can't wait till the warm spring days when I'll actually be able to wear long flowy skirts and lay out on the rocks while I re-read my favorite classic novels (is Harry Potter considered a classic yet?).

To dinner I wore this Versace shawl my mom gave me, a vintage faux fur vest, an Obey varsity jacket (On sale now!), and my Urban Outfitters leather backpack featured in last weeks post.

Happy Friday!

Simple.Clean.Crisp

Black I Way

Okay, okay, enough color already! You know I couldn't go on much longer without working some black in here. This is a great transitioning outfit. Spring trend (contrast) and crisp weather basics like this Alexander McQueen blazer that is to die for. My style has always been more on the simple and clean side. I tried to do the grungy just-rolled-out-of-bed-with-combat-boots look that was hot last summer, but I just felt like some kind of fake. Gone are the days when I try to adhere to any type of trend. I appreciate and awknowledge them, but following...not so much. When you feel uncomfortable, you look uncomfortable. There's no hiding it, so don't even try.

Don't worry if you haven't quite found your niche yet. It took me this long to find mine, and my mind changes every hour, so you can imagine how draining that is...or is that just called being a woman?
