¿Qué Onda Vos?

I'm FINALLY getting around to posting pictures from my trip to Guatemala this past June. I'm sorry about this being a non-fashion post, but I couldn't resist not sharing some highlights from this amazing experience! I worked/taught at a school called Mi Refugio, 7,000 ft above sea level in the mountains of Guatemala. I can't begin to tell you all how life changing this trip was. Being thrown into a completely different way of life in a country I'd never been to really made me question everything I thought I knew about life. In good, non-morbid, way though.

 Yes. These are real flowers.

Everyday when school began in the morning she would find me and hold my hand until she had to go to class. I miss her!

Me with the founder of Mi Refugio in the marshmallow vest and one of the teachers in red. Real angels!

I miss the loving and beautiful faces of all the children I worked with at Mi Refugio everyday. I know that I definitely want to go back...despite the fact that the bugs made me never want to set foot in Central America again.
On a fashion note: I was so captivated by the rich, vibrant colors of the country that I decided to buy two amazing pieces of fabric while I was in Antigua. I plan on turning them into something wearable but I can't decide what. Ideas?

Tribes and Quests

Wanted to post a couple quick shots from today's very relaxed outfit. These tribal print pants are definitely one of my favorite items in my closet. I wear these babies to travel, run errands, and do pretty much anything you can think of. I desperately need to find out where to get more tribal gear because I'm starting to wear these out. Running off to get changed for a friends birthday dinner at Tabaq Bistro!

Happy Friday!

Spaceships

I'm still drooling over my latest sneaker purchase. I got these babies for an amazing deal on GoJane.com. They make me feel like I'm an alien or someone from Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century...which now that I look back was a completely ridiculous depiction of the "future". Pretty sure this is as close to spacey as were gonna get for a while.

Forest Green

If there's one thing I'm always in the search for, it would definitely be the perfect pair trousers. I found these foliage colored ones at my favorite thrift store Unique this past weekend.

Rushing off to go have dinner with some friends. Hope everyone is having a great day!

Closet Raid: Session I

Many of you may or may not already know that my main focus in fashion is styling. I'm kind-of obsessed with it...So I thought, why not start a series where I help my friends rediscover their closets and style them using their own clothes? I love this challenge because no closet looks the same. Most people have a grasp of what their personal "style" is, but at the same time don't know how to put things together in a way that is unique to them and their body. That's what this is all about; rediscovering your wardrobe and your self

My first style subject is one of my closet friends, Isak (pictured above). Her Closet Raid session was so much fun because she is one person who definitely already knows how to make personal statements with her wardrobe. Her session consisted of digging into her impressive collection of clothing to rediscover gems that had been forgotten and put them together in a way she hadn't thought of.
The lace top paired with the leather pants created a gorgeous contradiction. Tough and delicate at the same time.
How beautiful is that copper jewelry? Brought back by Isak's parents from their trip to Europe.

This outfit was definitely Isak's favorite. Extremely comfortable and fun! Just the simple American Apparel dress paired with that amazing vintage gold clutch would have been fine, but the fishnet shirt and leather vest added the flare of personality I wanted to exude from her appearance.

I love it when women are bold with their outfit choices. Its refreshing to have so many options when it comes to what we choose to adorn ourselves with everyday. Whether its an eye-catching belt or funky jacket, daring femininity is the key to this statement look. We're blessed with feminine assets so why not play them up? This entire outfit is made up of bold pieces that accentuate her curves in flawless ways.
