Art Show

My sister Dubem and her friend Sabrina had their first art show this Saturday and I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out! The show was set up in two rooms with two themes: The Heart of the City & Ties That Bind.
The beautiful artists in front of their collaboration pieces entitled The City & The Heart. Can you guess which one is The Heart?
Four of my favorite pieces made by my sister. She's an architecture student if you couldn't tell.

Turban I

This is a really simple style I learned off of a random YouTube Channel (when I get the name I'll let you know). All you need is a half yard of stretchy rayon fabric, which you can get at any fabric store for really cheap. Fold the fabric in half- long ways- and lay the middle of the fabric on the back of your head so you can tie a knot in the front. You can tie one or two knots depending on you big you want it to be. After you tie the knots, take the loose ends and tuck them into the folds. Wa-la! You have your turban.

Try not to focus on my brows...they've been undergoing a growing out process. On my way to get them threaded now!

Hype Means Nothing

Instagram is where I usually discover brands or designers that I find interesting. People don't usually like to put where they got what they're wearing (in fear that someone will take advantage of their best kept secrets perhaps?) but I always find a way ;).

I was on my fellow fashion bloggers' Instagram (Song of Style) when I stumbled upon her sister's Instagram (@SongDani). She was wearing one of the Hype Means Nothing shirts I have pictured above. I absolutely LOVE this french brand, and have known about them for a while but never took the time to delve any further than looking at a couple pictures.

My taste overtime has changed, however, and being that I've been looking for some beyond ordinary t-shirts to add to my collection, this is reappearing in perfect time.

I can't go to France right at this moment, but lucky for all of us they ship to the US! Find them online here .  I'll definitely be grabbing mine.

Track Season

I am absolutely in love with the track pant trend this season. It can make any outfit look perfectly relaxed and classic. Im really trying to go back to basics when choosing items I want to add to my closet. I have a lot of randomness clouding my outfit judgements, I think its time for more direction.

You can find the specific Adidas X Jeremy Scott track pants I've had my eyes on here

What am I thankful for this year? Hate to be corny, but I'm thankful for this blog for giving me the ability to connect with other people who have the same love and respect for fashion as I do. Not only that, It's forced me to get off my butt and actually have the courage to do something that gives me happiness. I couldn't ask for anything more.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Closet Raid: Session II

Closet Raid is back! My apologies for not doing one in so long. I'm dealing with the extremely busy schedules of my friends so getting enough time together can be difficult sometimes. Nevertheless, we move on.

Meet my good friend Aimee! She warned me in the beginning that she didn't have much for me to work with because her job causes her be constantly on the move, so half of the time she is basically living out of suitcases. My response to her: We'll make it work! 10 pieces of unique clothing mean more to me than 100 pieces of mediocre clothing. Aimee has the definition of a diverse wardrobe.  For her session we focused on learning how to put together her dynamic pieces of clothing in a way that can be wearable in everyday life. Every piece was completely different from the other, which made this styling session such a blast!
This was by far my favorite look of the day. I loved the relaxed look of the button-up tan blouse underneath the BREATHTAKING Pucci vest. I wanted the vest to be the star of this outfit, so I stuck to using black for the surrounding colors. The faux-leather paneled jacket completed the look perfectly.
Doesn't she look like such a pretty flower-child!? I can imagine her running through a field of daisy's in this outfit. I love how easy it is to channel different era's in outfits using modern clothing. Like many other things in life, fashion is a huge cycle, recycling only the tried-and-true staples such as the high-waist, the clogs and the denim vest.
Urban Outfitters lace-up python wedges. Similar ones here
This was Aimee's favorite look of the day (if you can't already tell by the smile on her face). That amazing leather vest is from one of our many trips to It's Vintage Darling. You already know how much I love contradictions in outfits, so I offset the harshness of the vest with peach-colored calf-length leggings, giving the outfit a bit of a softer side.
We can really only be serious for so long.

If you live in the DC/Maryland/Virginia area and want me to raid your closet, send me an email at dryycleanonly@gmail.com and I'll set up a consultation! All genders, ages, shapes and sizes welcome.

Styling and photos by me.

The Jacket

Every once in a while when I visit my favorite thrift store Unique, I stumble upon something so magnificent it literally takes my breath away. Wednesday...was one of those days. I went to the thrift that day to specifically look for a fur coat and found this baby instead. A jacket, fit for a queen. It's big enough that I could even wear it as a dress with opaque tights if I wanted. Regardless, it'll be a work of art no matter how I spin it.
Did I mention that it's vintage Saks Fifth Ave? And you wont believe me when I tell you the price. A whopping $7! I know, I cried too. I even managed to make my mom speechless, which is rare considering the fact that she hates the thrift.
If you don't know already, embellishment's are huge this season, and this beauty is embellished to PERFECTION. You can't tell me there's any reason why a girl on a budget can't be absolutely fabulous at any time of year.

Winter Musings

I don't know about you guys, but I'm not as ready for this Winter season as I thought I was. There is definitely a shortage of tweed trousers, over-sized sweaters and leather in my closet and its starting to really get to me! I'm a dreamer, and above is what I dream about every night. I won't stop until I have every single piece in my closet. Reaching for the stars you say? Why not.

Seeing as I want my holiday season to be filled with fabulous parties and dinners, I'm going for elegance above all else. Granted I will have my grunge days, those are a given, but even when I'm relaxed I want to feel a sense of ultra-femininity. Whether it be throwing on a pair of crystal chandelier earrings with my high-waisted sweatpants  or wearing chunky sweaters with leather-pleated skirts, I think anything goes.

Smoke n' Mirrors

Photo taken with Instagram

My sincerest apologies for my lack of posting in the past week. I've been jumping through cities quite literally and finally have my feet planted in one place.
I was finally able to escape my house today after being stuck because of all this horrible weather. I managed to get out of NYC this past Sunday in the nick of time and my neighborhood thankfully didn't get hit as hard as others. The temperature is quickly dropping, so I decided to stick to my usual all black uniform when I went for hookah and dim-sum with one of my best friends today.

My corduroy skirt is definitely my favorite new item. I can wear it a million ways (dressed both down and up) and I love that it almost looks like a dress when I tuck shirts in.

Danskin turtleneck
Vintage jewels
Grandma's clutch

My prayers go out to everyone who is still left without power or a place to stay from Sandy!
