Freestyle

I almost forgot to post this! Kendrick Lamar did a breathtaking freestyle at the listening party I attended a couple weeks ago and I couldn't resist sharing it. Honestly, he entrances me. I wish there was a way I could climb into his soul to figure out what makes him so intriguing...

I Used to Love H.I.M

Some of my current inspiration. I see lots of clogs and denim in my future. Full-length skirts and chiffon are a given for me any season though.

Pop Up N' Shop

I wanted to do a quick post on Dewdrop DC’s Get Lucky Pop Up Shop I attended this past weekend with my friend Britto. I had never been to a pop up shop before but it sounded interesting  enough. DDC put together a 'blogger fashion show' and a clothing swap for after. For the swap, everyone was asked to bring up to seven clothing items they were willing to get rid of. All of these clothes were then laid out, and when prompted, you could choose one item for every item you brought.  Basically a free-for-all.

Among all the festivities there were also local designers showcasing their work at the event. The lineup included Accessories That Make the Outfit, Jewelry by Carmen LeFleur, Little by darin michelle, Nic’s Picks, and Styles by Elo.

My favorite pick of the day! Gorgeous lace babydoll dress. Can already picture it with a navy trench coat and opaque tights.
And the best find of the day goes to......NOT me but Britto. Close enough though!

Kendrick Lamar

I haven't had the chance to talk about music on here as much as I would like, but apart from fashion, it is one of my biggest passions. I just have an immense amount of love for all types. No matter what the genre is, my ears rarely judge.

I don't usually pick favorites when it comes to music because I have way too many, but after interviewing Kendrick Lamar this past Friday when he came to Washington, DC as part of the BET Music Matters tour, he is officially my favorite male rapper. It's not just his music, it's his humble small-town-boy demeanor. Its his genuine love for the human race, and his passion to change things using his words. I love when artists attach purpose to their work and use their talent for a cause way bigger than they are.

I had the amazing oppurtunity of attending the listening party for his upcoming album, Good Kid, m.A.A.d city, and caught up with him after to ask a couple of questions about his style. I apologize about the sound, it was way to loud in that studio.

Look out for Good Kid, m.A.A.d City, dropping October 22nd

NYFW : SP2013

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is well underway and has so far been packed with some amazing shows. I took a long awaited road trip to Savannah, GA with my little sister so I was unfortunately unable to make it to New York. I DID, however, peruse the web for my favorite looks of the week so far.

Thakoon Panichgul is such a young designer, and every year he surprises me with his growth. The silhouettes of his designs were perfectly tailored to the bodies of the model's. Strong and defined, inspired by mod sixties shapes, but stood out from the body at the same time. Genius. The use of white shirt-dresses mixed with brightly colored semi-sheer pieces and colorful embroidery and made for a very refreshing showcase in the downtown Chelsea studio.

Diane von Furstenburg is always one of my favorites during [and after!] NYFW. Her 'princess diaries' themed showcase gave us a glimpse into the life of a younger and more carefree Diane. The exotic destinations of regal globe-trotters in the late 1960's - early 1970's was reflected in pieces such as the billowing palazzo pants, the ball and chain sandals, and the geometrically detailed Cardin-esque tunics, which were in the captivating colors of Slim Aarons’s cafĂ©-society portraits. There's nothing I love more than when fashion and art help each other move forward in the world of design.

Bravo to all of the designers thus far!

Transitioning

Transitioning
This Alice + Olivia dress is currently on my fall wish list. I've been feeling like my main color palate for the cold months coming up is going to black and gold. If you know me, you know how obsessed I am with how flawlessly these two colors go together. Gold always makes me feel so regal and the black adds elegance. I can't wait to start experimenting with fur, velvet and all the other heavy fabrics I've missed so much.

Hope you enjoyed your labor day weekend!
