Something Blue

Something Blue

Is it bad that I have a wedding in Atlanta to go to in 5 days and still have no clue what I'm wearing? Yes, probably. Don't get me wrong I've definitely been brainstorming ideas of the perfect sheath, but its not as easy as you think! The thing about weddings (especially African weddings) is every woman present is essentially there to show-out. No, it is never okay to try and upstage the bride, but who said anything about trying to upstage each other (all in good fun of course)? We are women after all, it's in our blood. I found this dress during one of my daily web hunts and had to post it for you all. It has the appropriately sexy wedding vibe that I'm striving for and free flowing fabrics meant for long nights of drink and dance. This wedding is taking place in the south so I also have to keep the heat in mind when choosing fabrics. When you're picking out your own wedding wear for the summer months always take the heat level into account, unless of course you want to be a pit/under boob stain victim. I don't think there's anything more horrifying. Chances are I'm going to be wearing a dress darker than this. That or red.

Wings n' Things

If you know me you know winged eye liner is my thang. On this day I kept it really simple, but my hands have gotten pretty good at liquid liner so I tend to get creative with it especially when I go out at night. I know there are already 1,000 how-to videos and things showing you how to create the perfect cat eye, but I was thinking of putting up my own cat eye how-to on DCO for you lovely people. Thoughts?

Watercolors

I'm so excited to share these beautiful pictures with you all. Maria Teresa is the artist, a Portuguese designer living in Istanbul. I commented on her beautiful Girls with Curves Illustration and she checked out my pictures and thought it would be a good idea to illustrate me as well for practice. Glad I could help Maria :)
I love her sketching style and the way she blends colors. Soft and light with all the intensity held in the facial expressions.
She's a phenomenal artist. Click here where you can see more of her amazing blogger and food recipe illustrations.

Stormy Weather

I have a love/hate relationship with these pants: I love everything about them - I hate that I can never seem to find the perfect top to compliment them. Nothing ever looks quite right. In my head I imagine them with a perfectly draped silk over-sized frock. I have yet to find this item, so for now a plain black tee will have to suffice. I'm wearing Urban Outfitters pants (similar here), and Nasty Gal Tryst Pumps
Hope you all aren't tired of the flowers yet. The petals started shedding from the trees this weekend...

As the Eye can See

As the eye can see

I've been telling myself that I'm going to get into this whole transparent trend, I'm really feeling it. Right now it's all about what to invest in first. I already have a couple of white and black sheer items in my clothing collection, but my shoes definitely need to be spiced up. I'm finally satisfied with my culmination of classic pairs, now its time to get a little lot more creative. Direct your attention above for a moment to scope out the transparent babies high on my list. Now, obviously, I can't afford items such as the Valentino transparent clutch quite yet, but being exposed to high-end wear is important to me because it gives me a better understanding of quality: The #1 requirement my closet must have. When you know what good quality looks and feels like, it makes it really hard to buy apparel that is less-than. But don't start thinking that expensiveness equates to quality. Anyone who has ever shopped at a thrift store knows that's not true.

PS: I got my first mosquito bite yesterday! Kinda bitter sweet. It lets me know that 70+ degree weather is quickly approaching...but I could do without the huge red welt...thanks.

Happy Friday!
